Rob Matheson
BIOGRAPHY
Rob Matheson was elected to Loyalist-Cataraqui district on Nov. 13, 2006.
Councillor Matheson was born in Dar es Salam, Tanzania to Diplomatic Corps parents and grew up in such countries as Turkey, France, Belgium and Greece, between postings the family always returned to Aylmer QC (Gatineau) just outside Ottawa. The Matheson family returned to Canada for good in 1986. He first ran for election in the 1992 Quebec provincial elections for the Equality Party, in the Pontiac Riding.
Councillor Matheson moved from Ottawa to Kingston in 1997 and has set down firm roots here in Kingston to raise his two children whom he shares joint custody with, along with his Partner Debbie Sears. He was a CTEA Union Representative and Bilingual Customer Service Agent for Bell Canada, until the Company closed it's doors in Kingston in 2006. Rob currently works Part Time in order to accomodate his Council work. He is a bilingual Call Centre Agent at InterCall Canada a Teleconferencing Company, working within the Account Management/Reservations Department.
Councillor Matheson has a diploma in Public Relations from Algonquin College and another in Social Sciences from CEGEP. He also has Certificates in Small Business Management, and Pastoral Care, and is bilingual in both French and English.
Councillor Matheson has sat on the boards of the Aylmer Food Bank and the Outaouais Alliance. He has been a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows of Kingston and has volunteered and helped with fundraising for numerous causes over the years from Heart & Stroke, to the Cancer Society, to Easter Seals, the MS Society, Salvation Army, the Humane Society. He is Council's Representative on the Lafarge Community Relations Committee, has helped with Kids Literacy and the Walk for Dad as well as more recently the Ride for Dad, and the ALS Walk. Rob has helped with Pitch in Kingston every year and also bravely participated in Kingston's last frigid Polar Plunge.
Councillor Matheson is an avid motorcyclist, camper, as well as a dog lover, he also enjoys a good hockey game. He spends as much time as possible with his two children and family from Ottawa who visit the Kingston area frequently.
Rob Matheson meets with Loyalist-Cataraqui's Community Association the third Sunday of every month at Mino's Village from 3-5 p.m., (except summer months and December), all residents are welcome.
